Dinosaurs

Today, me and my mom played with an excavation "rock" toy that I got from my aunt Vasso as a birthday present. We were trying to find pieces of a small fake skeleton of a tyrannosaurus-rex. I had done a few thing before but they weren't really important (like breaking a dinosaur's shoulder off its arm). Well, after skyping my greek cousins me and my mom began without my sister because she had a make-up piano lesson but that is a different story.I had been doing the game upside down. My mom said "Pretend that the rock is stuck to the cardboard box." So I did. I used the spatula a lot and I was hitting it with the hammer to break the rock. I felt so happy because we got out some T-rex bones. The bones that we got were one of the legs, an arm and 1/2 of the skull. That was my dinosaur toy.

Hurricane Sandy Frankenstorm!

It was yesterday, Monday October twenty ninth two thousand and twelve. The streets were as quiet as the country side because a hurricane was coming. The hurricane's name was Sandy or Frankenstorm.  it didn't really feel like anything because I was inside all day long and if you ask "Did your building crash?"It would be a no but others did. Also don't ask "What did it look like?" because it is very simple,It was very rainy, stormy and very windy. The trees swayed like a kid on a swing. The day went by and the hurricane didn't end. I thought it would go on for the rest of my life. At night the news said that Battery Park City was flooded but not only Battery Park City but other places or cities. You know how electricity can turn off during a hurricane but the lights in my house didn't go off until eight o'clock. It was time to go to bed and I fell asleep and dreamed about the next hurricane.

My Trip to Inwood park

It was yesterday September fifteenth twenty twelve. It was Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year and the streets were crowded with Jewish people. We took our bikes up to Inwood Park.

First, we went to the Hudson river and ate fruit because we were hungry. We got up, took our bikes and went an hour and a half and saw a place that looked like a Greek temple. My mom said "This is going to take more hours than going to battery park!".

Half an hour later we arrived in Inwood Park. We saw a restaurant named "La Marina". So we went in the park and I heard a train, it was an Amtrak train! When I heard the train i almost jumped off my bike. We sat down and ate our sandwiches for lunch. For dinner dad came with us to eat at "La Marina." On our way back my sister and dad went by train and I with my mom took the bikes.

When we got home the story was written.

Summer In Greece

This year we went to Greece for our summer vacation.

We flew to Athens from New York City through the Paris airport. When we arrived in Athens, we looked for our suitcases on the baggage claim, but after the last suitcase came out, none of the suitcases was ours. We went to the lost baggage and the man said "Your suitcases are in Paris." Those suitcases where filled up with clothes! I felt very worried because I thought I would be left with no clean clothes! So we told him our address and they sent our suitcases the next day.

After a few days we went by train to Thessaloniki to see my dad's mom, dad, brother and our cousins. We ate lunch at a fish restaurant called "Miami". We stayed with my dad's brother in Chalkidiki for a few days. For the other 4 days we stayed in Thessaloniki. I was very happy that I spent some time with my relatives. After that we went back to Athens by train.

This is a map of Ikaria
A few weeks after that we went to an island named Ikaria to see a friend of my dad's, named Vangelis. We stayed in a little house for 30 euro a night. It was very nice house with a big yard and a beautiful view of the island. It was also very quiet, calm, sunny countryside. But, then we went to a different hotel a day before we returned to Athens.
This is a beach in Ikaria, named Nas. August 8, 2012.
This is the little house we stayed in Ikaria, near a village called Raches.

My summer was a motion trip.

Easter party in New Jersey

Today, at 1:00 pm me, my mom, my sister and my dad took our rented Nissan car and went to Alpine, New Jersey for an Easter party! I thought that it would be my family and the family that owned the house but, I was incorrect. I made a nine year old friend named Lucas. Oh, I saw that the house had a backyard and in the backyard there was a playground and a trampoline. For most of the time I was on the trampoline but sometimes I would be at the playground or the food counter. When the party was over, we left and headed home.

BioBus daphnia day

Today, I went to Sarah the science teacher for spring vacation camp. The plan was that the BioBus would come to our building and we could go inside it. The BioBus instead of gas uses... FRENCH FRIES COOKING OIL! On the bus we learned about Daphnia (da-fni-a). These are some facts I learned about daphnia:
  1. they are animals (of course)
  2. they have an exoskeleton
  3. bigger fish eat them
  4. they grow & reproduce
  5. they eat micro-organisms
  6. their habitats are freshwater places
If you ask what is a exoskeleton? Well, A exoskeleton is a skeleton outside the body.

Greek Independence Day Parade

Today, Greek Independence Day, me and my family went marching in the parade . The parade went up fifth avenue. Our group's name was :
Greek Solidarity Network, we also had a group number that was one-hundred and ten. Then a lady came up and screamed in the leaders face.It took THREE HOURS till our turn.

There was a fifth grader holding a sign that said " Robin Hood was right." I asked myself what had Robin Hood done that made him say that? Later, I found my answer "He took the money rich people stole from poor people and returned it."

I was holding a big blue banner that  four people needed to hold and said " Solidarity with the people of Greece.WE ARE ALL GREEKS."

So many people watched, I felt like THE WHOLE Greece was watching me. Soon, I felt like I was walking THE WHOLE Greece.

Beauty & The Beast At PS9

Today, I was at after school and my teacher, Lesley, said "Do the yogis want to go to see "beauty & the beast"?" Everybody said yes. So we had yogurt with strawberries, bananas and chocolate. At four twenty we went to see the play.

When we got there quietly, we sat down and watched. It was about a girl named Bell who didn't want to marry Gaston. But one day her father, Maurice got trapped in the castle of the beast. She had to find a way to free her father and not marry Gaston. The problem was she did not know what to do. The solution was that she gave herself to the beast instead of letting her father die. And she fell in love and broke the bad spell. My favorite character was Chip because she was hilarious.

We had to leave early because Lesley had a child that had to catch a flight but the play was a lot of fun.

At the AMNH on dads b-day

So, Today it was my dads b-day. We went to the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH). We saw two movies: Born To Be Wild & Journey To The Stars.

Born To Be Wild is about 2 adults. One of them lives in Borneo and the other in Kenya. The one that lives in Kenya takes care of orphan elephants, raises them and when they are adults, she returns them to the wild. Wild animals are not good to stay with humans for ever. The woman in Borneo takes care of orphaned Uracotangs. They both give their animals a second chance in life.

Born to Be Wild IMAX Trailer from AMNH on Vimeo.

The Journey To The Stars is about how the universe began. We saw how the sun was born many billion years ago and how the solar wind that escapes and reaches the earth. We watched this show in the Hayden Planetarium. If you want to learn more about astronomy, visit the AMNH kids site.
